COLONEL TIMOTHY D. BALLARD

Col. Timothy D. Ballard is the Commander, 10th Medical Group, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. As the Air Force Academy's Command Surgeon and Senior Market Manager for the Colorado Springs Multi-service Market, Colonel Ballard ensures health care for more than 145,000 eligible beneficiaries and ensures deployment preparedness of 700 medics.

Colonel Ballard earned his commission from the Air Force Academy in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in biology. He graduated from medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 1992, and completed his residency in family practice at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., in 1995. He attended the University of Cincinnati and completed his second residency in occupational medicine in 2008.

His deployments include tours of Southwest Asia in support of Operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom. His previous command assignments include Flight Medicine Flight Commander at Langley AFB, Va., and the 3rd Aerospace Medicine Squadron, at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

As a senior flight surgeon, Colonel Ballard has more than 700 flying hours in various aircraft, including MC-12s, C-17 Globemaster IIIs, C-130 Hercules, C-21s, C-32s, F-15 Eagles, F-16 Fighting Falcons and KC-135 Stratotankers. He is board-certified in family practice and occupational medicine and currently maintains his Ohio medical licensure.
