7/14/2014 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Academy's Class of 2018 tried to break the Guinness World Record for the largest chain push-up during Basic Cadet Training field day here July 11.

Nine hundred and eighteen basic cadets attempted to break the record, requiring each cadet to rest his or her ankles and calves on the shoulders of the cadet behind them, creating a human chain before attempting a push-up at the same time.

Guinness World Record attempts typically take months to verify and the Academy will submit required paperwork, along with video and photo documentation to Guinness.

It took almost seven months for Guinness to verify the Academy's successful attempt to shatter the then-Guinness World Record for the largest dodge ball game, May 19, 2011, when 3,623 cadets pounded each other with just more than 1,000 dodge balls.

This record was broken when 6,984 students at the University of California, Irvine, Calif., competed in a dodge ball game Sept. 25, 2012.

The Academy's attempt to break the dodge ball record can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=IODcEJfItFA.

Basic Cadet Training ends Aug. 2.

What a hoot Wish our class would have thought of that back in the summer of 1966.
