Warrior Games Cyclists brave cold for 20k, 10k races

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --   Warrior Games cyclists braved snow and near-freezing weather at the Air Force Academy May 13 to take part in a series of 20k and 10k races.

Senior Master Sgt. Mitchell Sanders took the Air Force's first gold medal of the inaugural Warrior Games, winning the 10k recumbent cycling event with a time of 24:03.

Also winning medals for Air Force were Marc Esposito, who won bronze in the upright bicycling 20k with a time of 36:28, and Jeanne Goldy-Sanitate, who won the women's handcycle 10k with 42:24.

The Marines took gold and silver in the upright bicycle division, with Justin Wess finishing first (36:23) followed by Travis Bartlett (36:26). The Army's Shawn Morelli took gold in the women's upright 20k (36:58), followed by Brittney Hutchins of the Marines (48:28).

The Marines also took two medals in the men's handcycle 10k. Michael Blair of the Marine team finished first (25:22), followed by the Army's Alfred De Los Santos (27:42) and the Marines' Travis Greene (29:20). The Army's Monica Southall earned silver in the women's handcycle 10k.

Following Sergeant Sanders in the recumbent bicycling 10k were the Marines' Angel Gomez (30:07) and the Coast Guard's Mike Bell (30:08).
