U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --

Basic training for approximately 180 young men and women appointed to the Air Force Academy Preparatory School begins July 18.

Scores of Prep School appointees are scheduled to arrive at 7:30 a.m. and complete in-processing at noon, many with their parents or other relatives, Prep School officials say. While there, the appointees will meet their military trainers, get haircuts, attend medical briefings and receiving their military uniforms, among other activities.

In all, the event is slated to take place at five stations at or near the Prep School, including the Community Center and the High Country Inn and Dining Facility.

The Prep Schools 10-month curriculum is designed to academically, physically, and militarily prepare selected young men and women to be accepted to the Academy.

Basic training at the Prep School is 18 days. The appointees earn the title “cadet candidate” once they graduate basic training.

A basic training graduation ceremony will take place in August.  Last year, 190 cadet-candidates earned an appointment to the Air Force Academy.
