11/27/2012 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- UPDATE (Dec. 4): Officials have canceled the exercise planned for Dec. 5-6.
The Academy will conduct a basewide exercise Dec. 5 and 6.
The public can anticipate delays at both gates on both days.
In addition, the visiting public will not be able to access the Cadet Chapel from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. This will include the chapel wall and chapel trail leading from the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center and Gift Shop will be open normal operating hours on both days.
Academy officials want to assure the public that this activity is planned and controlled, and ask that on-base drivers proceed with caution.
NOTE: The exercise on Thursday will be a joint agency exercise, including the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. Media interested in covering the exercise on Thursday must notify the Public Affairs office at 719-333-7647 to arrange access and escort no later than noon Dec. 3.
