1/29/2013 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy's Cadet Wing honor chairman informed the wing Jan. 29 that he had resigned his chair.

Cadet 1st Class Derek Travis said in his letter to the Cadet Wing that his invitation for some cadets to attend a recent wing honor board led to potential perceptions of a breach in the system's integrity.

Cadet 1st Class Zach Tully, the previous deputy wing honor chairman for remediation, has been named as Travis' replacement.

Travis personally addressed squadron honor cadets and cadet senior leadership in a meeting Jan. 29. Commandant of Cadets Brig. Gen. Greg Lengyel also addressed cadets during the meeting.

"I do not believe Derek was attempting anything dishonorable," Lengyel said. "In fact, Derek has made a very honorable decision in holding himself accountable and stepping down in the face of negative perceptions of the system's integrity. I have the utmost respect for Derek and how he handled this situation."

The wing honor chairman leads 182 other cadets who are part of the Academy's Honor Committee. The chairman reviews cases, oversees investigations and remediation and educates the Cadet Wing about living honorably.
