Chief Master Sergeant EDWARDO L. HERRERA JR.

Chief Master Sgt. Edwardo “Eddie” Herrera Jr. is the Command Chief Master Sergeant at the 10th Air Base Wing, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. In this capacity, he advises the Commander on all matters pertaining to the health, morale and welfare of more than 3,000 officers, enlisted and civilian personnel. As the Command Chief, he ensures the Wing provides the required medical and mission platforms to forge generations of leaders, deliver military readiness, and provide full-spectrum community supporting programs. He synchronizes with U.S. Air Force Academy leadership to enable quality support to enhance the education and development of more than 4,000 future Air Force and Space Force leaders. In this capacity, he also oversees the medical, engineering, logistics, communications, personnel, services, security and other key support services for more than 58,000 military and civilian personnel across a $3.5 billion base infrastructure.

Prior to his current position, Chief Master Sgt. Herrera was the Senior Enlisted Leader for the 27th Special Operations Wing, Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico. He was selected for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Formal Training Unit Instructor duty, where he spent eight years instructing both MQ-1 “Predator” and MQ-9 “Reaper” initial qualification training and has amassed over 3,000 instructional hours. Here, he supported the Air Force’s largest MQ-9 Formal Training Unit as a Flight Examiner Sensor Operator, the highest qualification that can be earned as a Career Enlisted Aviator. Chief Master Sgt. Herrera was also selected to take part in the Defense Ventures Fellowship program, where he was one of 32 Department of Defense members selected for an eight week immersion with the Venture Capital Industry. He now holds the 9IV Special Experience Identifier, making him an AFWERX ambassador.

Chief Master Sgt. Herrera is from El Paso Texas and entered the Air Force in August 2001. He has a diverse background beginning his career as an aircraft maintainer, working on helicopters and turbo-prop weapon systems at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. He dedicated five years to Air Force Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, where he was a Master Military Training Instructor. Chief Master Sgt. Herrera was then selected for re-training as an MQ-1 Sensor Operator. As a Career Enlisted Aviator, he has amassed over 1,100 combat flying hours and has significant joint service experience in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLCE, and IRAQI FREEDOM.
