Delayed reporting at USAFA March 24

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --

Due to a weather warning from National Weather Service, there will be delayed reporting at the Air Force Academy March 24.  

Non-mission-essential staff members are asked to report to the Academy no-earlier-than 9:30 a.m.,Mar. 24. Mission-essential staff members should report on time.  

Classes at the Academy are scheduled to begin on time. Child care services on base are scheduled to open at the normal time.

The Academy will close to visitors in the morning but may open later in the day.

The Forecast
According to the National Weather Service, a blizzard watch remains in effect from midnight March 23 through the morning of March 24 in northeastern El Paso Country, including Monument and Black Forest. 

"A strong storm system will send a cold front south across the Palmer Divide this evening with rain changing to snow by midnight," according to the NWS website. "Periods of moderate to heavy wet snow and blowing snow will be possible late tonight into midday Friday."

The NWS forecasts' snow accumulating between six to 10 inches and winds from the north to blow 35 to 45 mph, with gusts in excess of 65 mph. 

Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to very strong winds, areas of blowing snow, poor visibility and ice and snow-covered roads.
