The Air Force Academy's Natural Resources office will conduct the second weekend of the Academy’s annual deer hunt Dec. 16-18.

The Falcon Trail, USAFA Archery Range, Pine Valley horse pastures, and par course located between the archery range and the Community Center gym will be closed during the hunt.

Academy officials are urging personnel and visitors to avoid roads and trails leading to the hunting areas.  Orange signs with “Area Closed -- Authorized Personnel Only” are posted in these areas.

The purpose of the hunt is to control the deer population within the carrying capacity of the habitat, reduce deer-vehicle accidents, and help prevent over-browsing of landscaped areas.

All hunters will be guided by USAFA, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife personnel, with public safety as the primary concern.

All licenses for the Academy 2017 hunting season have already been issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
