Academy grad receives Air Force's Cadet of the Year Award, says ‘focus is on the future’
The Air Force announced Jan. 20 that it selected a 2020 Air Force Academy graduate and athlete as its Cadet of the Year. Second Lt. Jeff Gerlica, a drone pilot in training, was an operations research major, vice wing commander, and four-year baseball letter-winner during his time at the Academy.

Academy cadets start semester online, in classrooms
Scores of cadets swapped online learning for classroom attendance after a coronavirus safety restriction limiting their movements lifted Jan. 15. The spring semester began last week via online learning, after thousands of cadets returned from a holiday break Jan. 5-7 under strict health and safety guidelines.

Department of the Air Force senior leaders addressed the recent events at the U.S. Capitol in a letter to Airmen and Guardians encouraging them to exhibit conduct of the highest standard, Jan. 13. Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., Chief of Space Operations Gen. John W. Raymond, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. COVID surveillance testing, safety measures in place for cadets after holiday break
Thousands of cadets traveled back to the Air Force Academy this week after leaving the school in December for a holiday break. In all, about 4,000 cadets returned here in phases, spread across Jan 5-7, with strict guidelines on what to do if they felt sick or tested positive for the coronavirus.
