U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Snowfall from a winter storm caused officials at the Air Force Academy to close the base Feb. 25 as a safety precaution.

The Child Development Center opened for mission-essential personnel only, and the Main Exchange, shopette, commissary and 10th Medical Group are closed.

Weather forecasters at the 306th Flying Training Group said an average of just more than 3-inches of snow fell on the base during the storm but icy conditions and slush covered streets, sidewalks and the airfield.

The Feb. 24-25 snowstorm dropped between six-to-12 inches of snow across Colorado Springs and El Paso County.

Online classes started at 9 a.m. for cadets and the school’s annual National Character and Leadership Symposium continues online as scheduled.
