Happy Fourth of July, cadets, Airmen and families!

Two hundred forty years ago, 13 American colonies declared independence from the UK to form a country and have the right to self-governance. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted and officially signed the magnanimous Declaration of Independence. We appreciate the resolve and courage those patriots displayed in pursuit of freedom.

Today we have another generation of patriots dedicated to securing freedom and the blessings of liberty: America’s Airmen. Several paid the ultimate sacrifice. Many deployed from family and friends this holiday weekend but all carry the war hammer of air, space and cyber space power. As America’s Airmen we proudly serve in the world’s greatest Air Force to protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for this great country.

The great author, William Faulkner, wrote, “We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.” Because you are the great practitioners of air power, millions of Americans celebrate another Independence Day.

Thank you for all you do to secure our country and defend her against those who wish us harm and seek to destroy our great way of life. I hope all of you enjoy this special holiday and take time off with family and friends.
