U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- On Sept. 18, 1947, President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act creating the Department of Defense and the U.S. Air Force. On this day, we celebrate the Air Force’s 69th birthday.
Throughout the past six decades, the Air Force has married talented Airmen with innovative technology to ensure air power remains at the forefront of every military action. From combat operations to humanitarian assistance, the Air Force continues to dominate in the air, space and cyberspace domains. We are a dynamic organization with a proud legacy and rich heritage. Our short history demonstrates the amazing accomplishments the Air Force has made in building a global force with the strength and agility to fly, fight and win.
Thank you for everything you do to support the world’s greatest Air Force. I am proud and humbled to serve with you and to be part of an outstanding team dedicated to excellence. Happy Birthday Air Force!
