Until graduation, cadets wear the ring with the crest facing inward, closest to their heart. Following graduation, the ring is turned so the crest is closest to the heart of the officer ready and willing to protect and defend the U.S. with the training they've received at the Academy. This unique tradition unites all Academy graduates. Through the blood and the sweat, the triumphs and the failures, Academy graduates are brothers and sisters for life. The Academy crest is placed on the left side of the ring. The bezel surrounds a stone or inset with the words "U.S. Air Force Academy." These are circled by a chain of 59 links to represent the Academy's first graduating class and the bond each class shares. These elements remain constant throughout the years and serve as another bond all classes share. Graduation year "2015" is boldly displayed at the top of the crest. Class motto The motto of the Class of 2015 in Latin is "Una Pugna, Una Caterva," - "One fight, one team." The Class of 2015 carried this motto from basic military training, the struggles of their four degree year and through the intensity of recognition. Eagle The crest's centerpiece, the eagle is an honored symbol of the U.S. known for its power and grace in flight, qualities future Air Force officers strive to emulate. U.S. flag The U.S. flag, clutched by the eagle, symbolizes the patriotism and respect Academy graduates have for the U.S. The 15 stars represent the pride in being a member of the Class of 2015. Polaris The North Star, portrayed as a symbol of honor and guidance, is grasped by the eagle's talons. This symbolizes the integrity each Academy graduate possesses in their hearts to be an officer of character. Orville and Wilbur Wright The Class of 2015's exemplars, the graduates honor the Wright Brothers with an "O" and a "W" hidden in the beams of Polaris. Class number The Class of 2015 is the Air Force Academy's 57th graduating class, represented by the Roman number LVII hidden in the Wright Brother's wing supports. Prop and wings The prop and wings are in the crest to remind the Class of 2015 of the struggles they endured during recognition and remind them that they can overcome any hardship.
