Seventeen NCOs at the Air Force Academy are probably in a pretty good mood today because the Air Force selected them for promotion to master sergeant.
Master sergeant is the first rank of the Air Force’s senior noncommissioned tier and transitions technical sergeants from their duties as technicians and supervisors to operational leaders, according to the Air Force Enlisted Structure.
The Academy NCOs selected for promotion are: Daniel Burkhart, Joseph Garret, Kelly McKinley, Thomas Schaefer, Marlon Quitos, John Sinner, Charles Jacobson, Tiffany Kennedy, Raul Loyo, Earnest Aziz, Elizabeth Smith, Phillip Mendoza, AshleyMarie Umstead, Julius Delos Reyes, Kimberly Shields, Talisa Williams and Julia Taylor.
The Air Force released the master sergeant-selects’ list May 24.

-- 5,166 technical sergeants were selected for promotion to master sergeant
-- 20,169 technical sergeants were eligible for promotion
-- The overall selection rate was 25.61 percent
-- The average selectee’s overall testing score was 523.22
-- Their average time-in-grade was 3.86 years; time-in-service was 14.36 years; and the average decorations score was 11.42
-- The Air Force Supervisory Examination average score was 71.46 and the average board score was 374.48

The NCOs selected for promotion will be promoted in order of their promotion sequence number beginning Aug. 1.
