U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy reigned victorious with an 18-13 win against Fort Carson in the inaugural CASTLE Classic golf tournament May 26 at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club.
The tournament was set up as a team-scramble event where two-person teams compete against each other, with one point awarded to each winning team.
The Cadet-Athlete-Soldier Training and Leadership Exchange program matches Fort Carson soldiers with Academy cadets for shared experiences, camaraderie and relationship building.
This time, it was for a day of golf competition aimed to strengthen esprit de corps while celebrating the relationship between the two bases.
Former PGA pro golfer David Feherty was the guest of honor and crowd favorite. He’s a golf commentator for NBC Sports and the Golf Channel and known to many fans as the “voice of golf.”
Feherty said he developed a relationship with service members through his Troops First Foundation. He started the foundation in 2007 after a trip to Bagdad with the USO.
“It means the world to me, any time I get to spend time around our men and women in uniform,” he said.
The tournament was hosted by Fort Carson 4th Infantry Division. The annual event is scheduled to rotate between the Academy and Fort Carson in the future.
