U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy will host its 22nd annual Research Awards Ceremony Jan. 25 in Polaris Hall to showcase how the school advances engineering, humanities, science and the social sciences.
Associate Dean for Research Lt. Col. Don Rhymer said the ceremony recognizes the often revolutionary research of cadets and faculty.
“Our programs create a culture of innovation through solving problems and finding possible solutions to advance technology, or uncover the human and social factors that help the Air Force and Defense Department mission,” he said.
Rhymer said research projects at the school are designed to advance national security and improve the lives of citizens worldwide.
“Our projects run the gamut from updating our satellite system and the A-10 Thunderbird II aircraft system, to using geospatial sciences and ‘big data’ to assist our intelligence community,” he said. “If there’s a research problem that needs to be solved or that has the potential to advance the Air Force or DOD mission, you bet we’re interested in being involved.”
Awards to be given to cadets and faculty include the Dean of Faculty Outstanding Cadet Research Award, the Thomas D. Moore Award for Outstanding Cadet Summer Research, and the Immediate Impact in Research Awards.
