U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Colorado Springs School District 49 recognized the Air Force Academy and the other local military bases, Nov. 7.
Local military installations were lauded during a district board meeting for their “meaningful contributions to military-connected students and families,” a district spokesperson said.
Lt. Col. Judson Babcock, deputy commander of the Academy’s 10th Mission Support Group, was one of the representatives from the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, and Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases at the event.
“We thank you for nurturing and maintaining the strong partnership we’ve had,” Babcock told the board. “I know that’s reflected by the number of our families who [attend D-49 school].”
Approximately 25 percent of the district’s students are connected to the military, according to D-49’s director of culture and service, Lou Fletcher.
Kent Johnson, the Academy’s school liaison, said the trust between the Academy and D-49 enhances the ability for the staff and faculty at the Academy to fulfill its mission of developing leaders of character.
“Our relationship with D-49 is terrific,” he said. “We absolutely appreciate their support and teamwork as they partner with our military families.”
