Economic impact of new cadets on local community tops $2M

The arrival of the Class of 2017 on June 27, along with the arrival of cadet-candidates at the Academy's Prep School on July 17, will add more than $2 million to the local economy.

When all the figures are added up, the estimated 4,170 visiting family members, relatives and friends of cadets and cadet-candidates will generate approximately $1,251,000 in direct revenue in the Pikes Peak Region, and an additional $925,740 in city, county, state and Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority sales taxes.

Together, the total impact of in-processing for both the Academy and Prep School will be $2,176,740.

In Fiscal Year 2012, the total economic impact of the Academy on the surrounding communities was $898,823,166.
