Academy Band receives multiple honors in Air Force media contest

The NCO in charge of the Air Force Academy Band's video production team and a vocalist for the Academy Band's Blue Steel group was named the best public affairs musician in the Air Force, according to Air Force Media Contest results released by the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs office March 14.

Tech. Sgt. Julie Bradley enlisted in the Air Force in 1999 and joined Blue Steel in 2000.

Chief Master Sgt. John Gohl, the Academy Band's manager, said Bradley is one of the most versatile singers the band has seen, according to a story in the March 8 Academy Spirit.

Senior Airman Colin Truesdell, a bassist with Blue Steel, was named the Air Force's best new public affairs musician.

Tech. Sgt. John Dawson, a saxophonist for the Falconaires jazz ensemble, received awards for outstanding small instrumental composition or arrangement with "Joy on the Mountain" and outstanding large instrumental composition or arrangement with "Big Zona Mona Country."

"Julie, John and Colin are tremendous examples of the professionalism of the Airmen in the United States Air Force Academy Band," Academy Band Director Lt. Col. Don Schofield said. "We are proud of their service and humbled that the Air Force Public Affairs career field has chosen their accomplishments with which to benchmark excellence. Each of them continues to lead their peers with an expectation for high standards that sets the bar on which we all measure success."
