Board of Visitors to meet in Washington Dec. 10

The Air Force Academy's Board of Visitors is scheduled to meet in Washington Dec. 10 in the U.S. Capitol Building Visitor Center, Main Conference Room.

The purpose of this meeting is to review morale and discipline, social climate, curriculum, instruction physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the Academy.

Topics to be discussed at the Dec. 10 meeting will include introduction of new members, an update on the "Fix USAFA" initiative and an overview of Academy science, technology, engineering and mathematics outreach.

New members of the Board are retired Lt. Gen. Arlen Jameson, who served in military and commercial space ventures including a position as executive director of the Texas Telecommunication Infrastructure; retired Maj. Gen. Marcelite Harris, who was the first female aircraft maintenance officer and one of the first two female air officers commanding here; and Alfredo Sandoval, a managing partner of the Private Investment Group and a 1982 Academy graduate.

Other members of the Board include:

- Charles Garcia, Board of Visitors chairman and a 1983 Academy graduate
- Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah)
- Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.)
- Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.)
- Rep. Jared Polis (D.-Colo., 2nd District)
- Rep. Doug Lamborn (R.-Colo., 5th District)
- Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D.-Calif, 47th District)
- Rep. Niki Tsongas (D.-Mass., 5th District)
- Susan Schwab, professor of public policy at the University of Maryland and a former U.S. trade representative
Robin Hayes, owner and operator of Mount Pleasant Hosiery Mill and a former representative from North Carolina's 8th District
- Susan Ross, owner of Sierra Consulting and a 1983 graduate

Also expected to attend the meeting are the Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley; Daniel Ginsberg, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs; Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Carrol Chandler; Lt. Gen. Richard Newton III, deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel; Lt. Gen. Michael C. Gould, the Academy's superintendent, and other members of the Academy's senior staff.
