Academy to host July 4 celebration for community Published June 22, 2010 U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy will offer family-oriented games, music and fireworks to the Colorado Springs community as part of Independence Day celebrations July 4. The show, which is free and open to the public, starts at the Academy's athletic fields at 4 p.m. July 4. The Colorado Springs Philharmonic will perform from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. The Air Force Academy Band will perform from 8:15 to 9:30 p.m., after which the fireworks show will begin. Visitors may bring lawn chairs, cameras, blankets, umbrellas and sealed plastic water bottles. However, visitors may not bring coolers, barbecue grills, pets other than working service dogs or fireworks. Water and portable restrooms will be provided. Parking will be available at and near the Cadet Field House. Carpooling is strongly recommended. Visitors attending the event should enter the Academy through the North Gate, Exit 156B on Interstate 25.
