Boxing: Air Force set to host Army in annual showdown

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --  The Air Force boxing team will host defending national champion and service academy rival Army in its annual showdown in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room Nov. 6 at 4:30 p.m. 

The two academies will send 22 boxers into ring of the Cadet Gym Boxing Room for 11 bouts, ranging from 130 pounds to the heavyweight division. Admission is free. 

Sophomore Rainer Caparas opens the action with a 130-pound contest with Joe Grohoski, while classmate Casey Habluetzel takes on Gerome Anthony in a 170-pound bout. Dropping down to the 150-pound division, freshman Glenn Miltenberg will take on Nolan Meyers in his first action against a foe from the National Collegiate Boxing Association.

Junior Joe Silvio will step into the ring for a 157-pound contest with Huseyn Panahov, while junior Vincent Miranda faces off with Derek Turner in a 163-pound bout. It will be the second time in as many seasons that Miranda and Turner have met in the annual Air Force-Army showdown. Miranda, the only Falcon on the card to have competed in last year's event at West Point, defeated Turner by decision.

Sophomore Spencer Baucke will compete in his first NCBA service academy event, taking on Zoar Morales at 177 pounds. Senior Bailey Ball will follow with a 142-pound contest with Clarke Langston.

Three of the final four bouts feature contenders tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Team captain Cory Tintzman will step into the ring with Tyler Elliott for the first of two 200-pound contests. Following Nathan Liptak's 150-pound bout with Terrell Anthony, Brett Satterfield and Tim Tracey will face off in the other 200-pound contest. Mike Chambers will close out the night in a heavyweight showdown with Bruce Compton.
