Hockey: Volkering named AHA's goalie of the week

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Air Force senior goaltender Andrew Volkening was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week for earning two wins against the Rochester Institute of Technology Oct. 23-24.

Volkening, from Genoa, Ill., led the Falcons to their first two wins of the season and to four points in AHA play. In the two games against RIT, he posted a 2.88 goals-against average and a .915 saves percentage. He had 28 saves on Oct. 23 and a season-high 37 saves Oct. 24, the third most of his career.

The award is the second AHA weekly honor of the season for Air Force and the 10th of Volkening's career.

Air Force, 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the AHA, travels to Buffalo, N.Y. for a two-game league series with Canisius, 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the league, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, at 3:05 p.m. Eastern Time each day.
