Parents' Weekend expected to bring thousands to Pikes Peak region

A peek inside cadet life awaits cadet parents and families at the Academy's annual Parents' Weekend, Sept. 2-7.

The major influx begins Sept. 3 with several thousand visitors expected to arrive in the Pikes Peak Region for events at the Academy and to visit attractions in the local area.

The first full day of Parents' Weekend will be Sept. 4, expected to brings an estimated 9,000 cadet parents and family members to the Pikes Peak Region for the Labor Day Weekend.  

The marquee event is the Parents Weekend Parade, which starts at 9 a.m. Sept.  4. The public is invited to this free event. The Academy's North Gate will open at 6 a.m. to the public. Visitors should arrive early.

A pre-parade Cadet Aviation Capabilities Exercise, including a glider landing at the parade field and a Wings of Blue demonstration and falconry, starting at 8:15 a.m.

A number of other activities are available to parents for Parents Weekend including:

· Parents Weekend Information Fair: Sept. 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Arnold Hall Ballroom
· Cadet Performance Showcase: Sept. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Arnold Hall Ballroom, featuring cadet show choir, cadet orchestra, sabre drill team and the cadet chorale.
· Athletics open house: Sept. 4, 3 to 4:30 p.m., in the Cadet Field House, Cadet Gymnasium and Athletic Hall of Excellence.
· Academic Majors and Career Fair: Sept. 4, 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m., Fairchild Hall
· Air Force Academy versus Morgan State football game: Sept. 5, 1:30 p.m. kickoff here.
