The Air Force Falcons beat the Army Black Knights 1-0 in a double-overtime matchup at the Cadet Soccer Stadium here August 28.

The Falcons held a 19-10 advantage in shots and 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The game-winning play came at the 1:04:43 mark when Falcon defender A.J. Esparza scored from the right side of the goal box to the left post.

Sophomore John Wendt picked up his first-career win in goal, recording a save in the shutout.

"I was really proud of the way we played," said head coach Doug Hill. "We had good ball movement that gave us many opportunities to attack and get good shots. We played well defensively and limited Army's chances."

The game was the season opener for Air Force and Army.

"As a team, we'll continue to get better and give the fans a reason to keep coming back to Cadet Soccer Stadium," Hill said.

Air Force returns to action September 4 at Evansville.
