Nearly two dozen Air Force Academy NCOs were notified June 16 of their selection for promotion to master sergeant.

In all, the Air Force selected 5,301 technical sergeants for promotion to master sergeant during the 2015 E7 promotion cycle.

"This is a revolutionary moment in the careers of these Airmen and for the Air Force, as it's the first time those selected for promotion to master sergeant had their records reviewed by a board," said Chief Master Sgt. Max Grindstaff, the Academy's command chief. "So not only did they test, their records were inspected to make sure we're promoting the right NCOs at the right time."

Tech. Michael Hawkins of the Academy's Safety Office said he was excited to see his name on the selection list.

"I'm honored and humbled," he said. "I look forward to passing on the mentorship and leadership knowledge I've gained during my career to my subordinate Airmen. I would not be here today if not for those senior NCOs who led and mentored me."

The Academy's master sergeant selects are Matthew Acevedo, Nathaniel Boyd, Mychael Bulford, Oscar Castro, Ian Collins, Akamie Fives, Paige Frye, John Graham, Chad Houston, Matthew Fitzgerald, Russell Moss, Yvonne Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Grant, Michael Hawkins, Shaun Lyle, Andrew Rounds, Daniel Smith, Brandon Smyer, Heather Stanton, Brian Sturdivant, Jeffrey Valentine, Jesse Vargas and Codi Weaver.
