Air Force selects 23 Academy NCOs for E-6 promotion Published June 9, 2015 By Ray Bowden U.S. Air Force Academy Public Affairs U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force selected 8,446 Airmen for promotion to technical sergeant June 9 and 23 of those NCOs are assigned to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Staff Sgt. Andrew Samland, assigned to the 10th Medical Support Squadron, is a technical sergeant select. "My first thought was 'It's not real' and 'It's about time,"' he said. "I thought 'I'm back on track career wise' because it took too many times to get here." Samland credits his wife Erika and their two children to his success. "My family is always at the forefront of everything I do or achieve," he said. Staff Sgt. Scott Maciel, assigned to the 10th Security Forces Squadron, is also a technical sergeant select. "I was really excited to see my name on that list," he said. "All my anxiety went away. I hope to be put in a position where I'm able to lead and mentor more Airmen." Maciel said he owes his success to his wife Nicole and their two children. "My family is very important - they help motivate me," he said. Technical sergeant selects represent 23.55 percent of the 35,863 staff sergeants eligible for promotion across the Air Force. The selects will be promoted according to their promotion sequence number beginning in August. Selections are tentative until the data verification process is complete, no later than 10 days after the promotion release date.
