The Defense Department teamed with the Transportation Security Administration and 11 major airlines to speed up the screening process for cadets from all U.S. service academies.

Cadets can leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt and keep laptops and size-compliant liquids or gels in a bag, at 120 participating airports.

"This week, as we recognized veterans of our armed forces, we are grateful to the brave men and women who serve our nation with honor and distinction," said TSA Administrator John Pistole.  "Providing expedited screening is the least we can do for our military and service academies."

Last year, the administration sped up the screening process to service members, including the Reserves and National Guard.

The TSA previously extended the benefit to civilian DOD employees who follow the "opt-in" process when registering online for a flight.

Those registering online for a flight should enter their DOD identification number in the known traveler number field for existing and future flight reservations, including airline frequent flyer profiles.

Due to the TSA's random security measures at airports, no one is guaranteed faster screening, a TSA news release said.
