USAFA uses Ambassador Program to inform prospective cadets

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --  Twenty-eight Academy cadets are taking part in the Academy Ambassadors program, giving high school students and their families a slice of cadet life.

The program overseen and managed by the Admissions Directorate, gives prospective cadets the chance to meet current cadets, and is similar to campus tours given at many civilian colleges, said Maj. Pamela Backeberg, the Admissions officer in charge of the tour program.

"Our hope is that all students offered an appointment to attend the Academy seriously consider all their options and ultimately gather as much information as possible during these tours to make the best decision for them," Backeberg said.

This voluntary program was created to ensure prospective students and their families interact with current cadets as comments given by USAFA visitors expressed a high interest in meeting cadets.

"I applied to fill in the position here because there were some openings," said 2nd Lt. Prittany White, a Class of 2013 graduate assigned here. "I thought this would be a great opportunity to give back to the school and leave a positive impact."

During their visit, prospective students learn how to apply to the Academy and tour the cadet area and academic facilities.

Tours are 12:45-3:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, between Labor Day and Mid-May.
