22 USAFA Airmen selected for staff sgt. promotion

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) --Twenty-two Academy senior airmen and one Air Education Training Command Airman here been selected for promotion to staff sergeant.

The Air Force released the staff sergeant selection list July 10. Of the 36,739 senior airman eligible for promotion to staff sergeant, 9,403 were selected -- a 25.59 percent selection rate, Air Force officials said.

Chief Master Sgt. Maxwell Grindstaff, the U.S. Air Force Academy command chief, extended his congratulations to the staff sergeant-selects at the Academy.

"Promotion to the NCO tier is a great step in any Airman's career," he said. "Your selection is the result of your hard work and family support and indicates the trust the Air Force has placed in your ability to lead Airmen. This is a huge step that comes with huge responsibilities -- the continued growth and care of your Airmen will now be a top priority. I have great faith in your ability to continue leading from the front and to do the right thing for your Airmen and for the Air Force."

The average score for those selected is 291.91. Selectees' average time in grade is 2.03 years and time in service is 4.51 years. The average enlisted performance report score is 132.25, and 0.99 is the average decorations score. Selectee average promotion fitness examination score is 62.80 and the average specialty knowledge test score is 66.03.

Those selected for staff sergeant are promoted according to their promotion sequence number beginning in September. Selections are tentative until the data verification process is complete, no later than 10 days after the promotion release date. Personnel officials will notify Airmen if their selection is in question.

Senior Airman Undre Stoker, 23, of Houston, is one of the Academy's staff sergeant-selects. He's assigned to the 10th Security Forces Squadron.

"Just to see my name on that list gave me a sense of accomplishment and relief," he said. "My squadron has done a great job of preparing me to be a security forces NCO, so I'm pretty sure I'm prepared to take on the responsibilities of this promotion. I'd like to congratulate all the senior airmen here who were selected. It's a great accomplishment."
