Local 4th of July events Published June 27, 2014 By U.S. Air Force Academy Public Affairs Academy Public Affairs U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Academy will not host Independence Day celebrations this year due to the ongoing government sequestration and budget cuts, but there are other ways Academy families can celebrate. Fort Carson Fort Carson is scheduled to host a Fourth of July Celebration 4-10 p.m. Thursday at Iron Horse Park for all service members, retired ID card holders and their families. "The annual Fourth July event is the largest event for the year," said Peggy Martinez, Fort Carson Public Affairs. "The attendance has historically ranged between 5,000 and 10,000. The event offers something for everyone including live music, children and adult activities, and a variety of food and beverages. The event will end with a large fireworks display choreographed to music." Keystone Resort The 10th Force Support Squadron has teamed with Keystone Resorts in the Rocky Mountain Blue program to offer discounts for the resorts' week-long celebration event, said Ross Ryan, 10th FSS Community Services flight chief. "Keystone is having a weekend-long entertainment event, including a large fireworks display at their resort at Keystone, Colorado," he said. "This event includes a barbecue buffet, fly fishing derby, bike decorating contest and parade, a 9-hole golf scramble, the Kidtopia Kidfest, discounted horseback riding and more."
