Academy announces plans to search for new athletic director Published May 23, 2014 U.S. Air Force Academy Public Affairs U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Air Force Academy Athletic Director, Dr. Hans Mueh, announced his retirement May 22 effective at the end of the 2014-2015 Academic Year. The Air Force's Academy will soon begin to market and strategically target an executive-level candidate pool with the competencies and motivation to assume the role of our Athletic Director. "Dr. Mueh will have served at the Air Force Academy a total of 43 total years, 11 of them as athletic director," said Academy Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Michelle D. Johnson. "The impact he has had on the Academy cannot be overstated and his departure will be felt strongly across all mission areas. "In an effort to ensure a smooth transition next summer, we are in the early stages of a very deliberate and disciplined nationwide search process." The Air Force's Academy will follow Office of Personnel Management guidelines to select the best candidate to replace Dr. Mueh as the Academy's Athletic Director. The plan is to ask nationally recognized experts to join the team as part of the search committee while partnering with an executive search group to attract exceptionally qualified talent. "This process will take some time, but we'll make it as transparent as possible and we will announce the new athletic director at the appropriate time," General Johnson said.
