Academy to hold town hall meeting on airfield operation changes Published May 20, 2014 U.S. Air Force Academy Public Affairs U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Academy is scheduled to discuss upcoming changes to flying training activities in a town hall meeting May 29, 6 p.m. at Discovery Canyon Campus. Representatives from the Academy and the 306th Flying Training Group, the organization charged with airfield operations at the Academy, will provide a briefing on upcoming changes and address any questions the public may have. The proposed changes, set to take place at the beginning of June, include reopening Bullseye Airfield near Ellicott and extending the northern departure route for a portion of departures to continue along I-25 to Baptist Road before turning east. These aircraft should reach an elevation of more than 1,000 feet above ground before travelling over Baptist Road to the eastern training areas, reducing noise impact to the areas below. Both of these changes are intended to reduce the impact of the flying training activities over the communities directly to the east of the Air Force Academy by approximately 30 percent. The Air Force Academy is committed to quality training while fostering positive community relations with our neighbors. The support of the community is essential to the success of the Academy's mission. Those with questions or concerns may call the Academy's Public Affairs office at (719) 333-7731.
