Two Airmen assigned to the 10th Security Forces Squadron were recently recognized by their peers across the state for excellence in the line of duty.

Senior Master Sgt. Shadd McKee was selected as the Outstanding Security Forces Senior NCO Defender of the Year, and Department of the Air Force officer Fabian Pollard was selected as the Air Force Police Officer Defender of the Year, at the Front Range Chapter of the Air Force Security Forces Association's annual awards presentation here Feb. 28.

"Both of these gentlemen are extraordinary Airmen," said Maj. Jose Lebron, 10th SFS commander. "These awards are well-deserved and we are extremely proud to have the best-of-the-best in the Front Range serving right here at the Academy."

McKee, the 10th SFS's operations superintendent, is a 2013 Lance p. Sijan Award recipient. Last year, he was awarded his second Bronze Star for bravery for his actions during a deployment to Afghanistan.

"Senior Master Sgt. McKee does his job flawlessly - He's definitely one of the best senior NCOs I've have had the chance to work with in my career," Lebron said.

Pollard was recently recognized as one of the 10th Air Base Wing's Category I Civilian of the Year. Last year, he provided personal security for the secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force chief of staff during the Academy's 2013 graduation ceremony.

"He's out in the field, enforcing the law and keeping the installation, personnel and their families safe," Lebron said.

Pollard's said his recognition by the AFSFA is the result of a team effort by all security forces Airmen here.

"They strive so hard to serve the public with honor and distinction," he said. "This award shows the success of our unit."

The AFSFA is a worldwide organization of security forces Airmen established in 1986. Its Front Range Chapter includes Airmen from the Academy, Peterson Air Force Base, Cheyenne Mountain Air Base, Buckley AFB, Schriever AFB, and guard and reserve units from across the state.
