2010 grad dies from medical complications

A 2010 Air Force Academy graduate assigned to Schriever Air Force Base died of medical complications Nov. 29 at Penrose Main Saint Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs.

First Lt. Nicholas Goirigolzarri was assigned to the 50th Operations Group Standardization and Evaluation Division following a couple years with the 4th Space Operations Squadron, both here.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Lieutenant Goirigolzarri's family and friends," said Col. William Liquori, 50th Space Wing commander. "The Air Force lost an exceptional and talented Air Force officer. Nick will be missed. We will do everything we can to support the family and friends in their time of need."

While assigned to Schriever AFB, Goirigolzarri earned Athlete of the Year for 2012 in recognition of his base participation and overall physical fitness. He played an active role in the U.S. Air Force Academy Rugby program and played rugby for the Air Force from 2011 to 2013.
