USAFA, county emergency responders locate missing hiker

Academy emergency responders teamed with El Paso County Search and Rescue to locate a 61-year-old man reported missing near the Santa Fe Trail here Nov. 4.

When the Academy receives a report of a person believed to be missing on the installation, but their specific location is unknown, El Paso County Search and Rescue is called, said 10th Civil Engineer Squadron assistant Fire Chief John Milam.

The hiker refused medical attention and was turned over to a relative at the North Gate just after 9 p.m., said an Academy Command Post official.

He was reported missing around 7 p.m. and found just before 9 p.m. on the Falcon trail near the Academy's waste Water Treatment Plant, said the official.

The man was not associated with the Academy.
