Academy prepares to give to CFC; annual campaign begins Sept. 30 Published Sept. 27, 2013 By 1st Lt. Brandon Baccam Academy Public Affairs U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Pikes Peak Region's 2013 Combined Federal Campaign begins Monday, giving Academy Airmen the chance to donate to their choice of more than 3,000 charities. The CFC of the Pikes Peak Region is an annual fund raising drive on behalf of thousands of local, national and international charities for service members and Defense Department civilians within Colorado Springs, Pueblo and most counties in southern Colorado. "The impact of CFC is immeasurable," said Maj. Matthew Ross, the Academy's 2013 CFC project officer and a Dean of Faculty instructor here. "Charities cannot provide services without the generous support from donors -- a significant portion of which comes from federal employees." Each year, the CFC runs more than 200 campaigns across the world to raise millions of dollars for nearly 20,000 charities helping veterans, their families, the homeless, medical research, global humanitarian assistance and protection of animal rights. These charities serve vital needs including food, clothing, shelter and emotional support, Ross said. "They serve all walks of life to include veterans, children and the elderly," he said. New this year is the option for donors to make their pledges online. By visiting https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx, donors can access a pledge form that's easy to fill and submit, Ross said. "Donors should give online if they feel more comfortable doing so," he said. "We have taken several steps to ensure that all methods of giving are secure. It's all about serving our donors." The 2012 campaign raised nearly $2 million from contributions in the Pikes Peak Region and Academy Airmen at all levels have pledged their support for this year's program, Ross said. The theme of this year's CFC is "It's not about meeting the goal -[ it's about meeting the need." "Those needs are ever present in our community, our nation and internationally," Ross said.
