More than 2,500 service members and their families assigned to military bases in Colorado and Wyoming took part in SnoFest, an annual sporting event hosted by the Keystone Resort, Jan. 22-24.

Personnel support staff at the Air Force Academy, Buckley, F.E. Warren, Peterson, and Shriever air force bases and Fort Carson helped organize the event.

Mary Willis, the 10th Force Support Squadron's Airmen and Family Services flight chief at the Academy, attended SnoFest with her husband and sons, 12 and 14. She said the event featured a cardboard derby, snow-tubing, a hospitality tent, a Volkfest-themed party and other activities for service members and their families.

"This is the fifth year we've gone," she said. "We absolutely love it. It's a great opportunity for quality family time."

Willis appreciates the direct involvement of all the support personnel who team-up to create a successful event. "We're one team, even though we're on different bases," she said. "We're here for the same reason, to provide services for our families and Airmen."

The camaraderie shared by the various bases transfers to the Airmen and soldiers who go to SnoFest, said Jill Stevens, director of services and marketing for the 10th FSS.

"The team building and networking opportunities SnoFest provides is one of the main attractions," she said.

Academy Airmen and their families shouldn't overlook next year's SnoFest, Willis said.

"I would highly recommend it, especially if they're new to Colorado," she said. "It really gives them a glimpse into what Colorado is about."
