TAMPA, Fla -- Air Force senior Chris Dylewski is this year's recipient of the Hockey Humanitarian Award.
The award recognizes college hockey's top citizen, a student-athlete who makes significant contributions to their team and community.
Among those contributions, Dylewski, of Colorado Springs, founded RISE, Inc. in 2014, which develops ethical and inspirational leadership skills in young people with a passion for serving their community. One RISE project, a cadet wing shoe drive, collected more than 900 pairs of shoes for needy families in Colorado Springs.
Last year, Dylewski created Operation Safe, a cadet club committed to raising awareness at the Air Force Academy about humanitarian issues, including sex trafficking.
"Chris is a vital member of our team who sets the tone in practice, in the weight room and in team meetings," head coach Frank Serratore said earlier this year. "He absolutely makes us a better team with his work ethic ... Nobody works harder than Chris.”
The award was first presented in 1996 and is open to Division I, II and III Hockey athletes.
