Intramural Round-up: Retirees take volleyball championship

The Retirees took the Intramural Basketball Championship April 11 here when they beat Fire Department in a two-game season wrap-up, 25-19 and 26-24.

Game one

 

Early in the first match, the teams tied twice, at 4 and 9, but the Retirees took a 13-10 lead to stay ahead of Fire Department. 

 

Retiree Chad Holland hit a kill-shot at the end of the game, grabbing a 23-17 lead. Retiree Ken Tietz closed the game with another kill shot with a set from Rey Roura, for a game ending 25-19 score.

Game two

 

Fire Department’s Dakota Christensen’s kill-shot off a set from Travis Perkins took the score to 6-1. 

Late in the game, the Retirees cut into the lead to tie the game at 11, all on back-to-back kill shots from Tim Filzen and Chad Holland. Tietz took the score 13-11 as he hit another kill-shot off a set from David Malcolm.

 

Fire Department took an 18-17 lead when Jose Rivera’s kill shot and Christensen’s spike upped the

score 20-18. Filzen and Malcolm took the score 22-20 with more consecutive kill-shots.

 

Fire department took the lead at 24-22, Christensen had a kill shot off a set from Dan Garcia, and followed that with a serving ace.

 

The Retirees went on a 4-0 run as Filzen’s kill shot tied the game, 24-24. Malcolm's tough serve gave the Retires the game with a final score of 26-24.

 

The Retirees, new to this season’s lineup, finished the regular season in first place (15-1). Fire Department reached the last season’s finals.
