U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Col. Cheryl Kearney, head of the Air Force Academy's Political Science Department, has been selected for a Supreme Court Fellowship to begin in August at the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice.
"Military officers take an oath to the U.S. Constitution," Kearney said. "Since it is the role of the judiciary to interpret the Constitution, it is vital for our future officers to understand and appreciate the Supreme Court. I return to the Academy in 2017 to continue educating future 21st Century officers of character with a fresh perspective on the rule of law, the role of the Supreme Court in our republic, and a deeper appreciation for our oath of office to the Constitution."
At the Academy, Kearney leads 32 military and civilians faculty members in teaching American government, international relations, comparative politics and national security.
The Supreme Court Fellows was created in 1973 by Chief Justice Warren Burger to expose fellows to judicial administration, policy development and education.
