The Academy Faculty Forum will host a debate on the proper role of religion in the military in Arnold Hall theater Tuesday, April 24, at 5 p.m.

Addressing the question, "What is the appropriate balance between religious freedom and official neutrality in the military?", the participants in the debate are recognized authorities on the issue, which, in the past two years, has led to specific guidelines on the practice of religion throughout the Department of Defense.

Michael L. Weinstein heads the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and Jay A. Sekulow is a member of the American Center for Law and Justice. Academy law professor David Fitzkee, an expert on First Amendment law in the military, will moderate the debate.

The debate will permit both statements and rebuttals by Mr. Weinstein and Mr. Sekulow, and audience members will be able to pose questions to both speakers.

The debate is free and open to the public. Because of limited parking and seating, those planning to attend should arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. The general public is encouraged to enter via the Academy's North Entrance (I-25 Exit 156-B) and park at the Cadet Field House. Shuttle bus transportation will be provided to and from the debate venue.
