The U.S. Air Force Academy is conducting its annual Spring Culminating Exercise from April 15–18, 2026. The exercise validates and tests cadets’ essential warfighter training.

During the exercise period, community members in areas on or near the Academy may notice:

  • Increased activity from aircraft, including fixed-wing aircraft and small unmanned aircraft systems operating within designated, restricted airspace.

  • Generator noise, smoke, and other field exercise sounds on the Academy.

  • Increased vehicle traffic or road closures associated with exercise logistics.

Approximately 3,600 cadets will participate in the exercise, which is conducted entirely on the Academy. The exercise scenario is designed to prepare cadets for the multi-domain, joint operational environments they may encounter as Air Force and Space Force officers.

“The Spring CULEX is a multi-domain, tactical field exercise that provides cadets the opportunity to tackle an adversary-focused scenario that tests their teamwork, leadership, and ability to put into practice their warfighting skills," said Col. Jennifer Hall, CULEX director. “The current strategic environment demands that our future officers be well equipped to serve in the joint force and with the help of units from across the front range, the CULEX and future exercises will help to forge warfighters who are ready to lead on day one.”

All training is conducted within established safety, environmental, and Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. The Academy has conducted environmental assessments for the exercise in accordance with applicable regulations.

The Academy has notified the El Paso and Teller counties, liaison offices in Colorado Springs and Monument and other local partners in advance of this exercise.
